About the book
At the heart of the story are two little seeds, Lola and Rosie, planted by Grandma in the spring. Lola is a brave little dreamer who can’t wait to meet the sunshine and a world full of buzzing insects, rain and rainbows. Rosie, though, is full of fears: she has heard stories about how unfriendly it is up above, and she would rather stay in the safe, cosy dark.
But one night the Wise Root comes to Rosie in a dream and helps her believe in herself. When she wakes up, Rosie decides to take a chance. She pushes past her doubts and reaches for the light — and up above she finds a world full of warmth, movement and life.
Now a strong sunflower herself, Rosie becomes a voice of encouragement for the new seeds.
The book comes with a supplement: questions to talk over after reading that draw the child into a conversation with a parent or teacher.
The book was created in collaboration with the artist Zalina Gozalova, who created a visual world where simple shapes convey deep feelings: fear, doubt, courage, curiosity, growth and joy.
